Accessible Amazon Adventures
Home to the largest variety of undiscovered animal species on earth and reservoir of one fifth of the planet's fresh water, the abundant lush foliage of the rain forest is home on a grand dimension to reptiles, exotic mammals and tribes of native inhabitants who survive in harmony with their environment. However, modern industrialization threatens the balance between man and nature creating an Amazon ecosystem under siege. Our program examines the beauty and the importance of the rain forest by frequently venturing into the jungle by motorized boat to study our immediate environment in greater detail. Our naturalist guide helps us learn more about the delicate interaction between man, animal, and plant life as we explore the smaller "igarapes" (seasonal tributaries) and "igapos" (flooded woodlands), and spend time visiting local Indians. On our many day trips on the water we enjoy bird watching and fishing for the feared piranha. After dark we return to the river where we capture (and release) South American alligators. Our special adventure has been carefully designed for the naturalist, the eco-tourist, the photographer, and the wheelchair traveler who wants an accessible, experienced, off-the-beaten-track tour program.
The Guanavenas Inn Known by eco-tourists around the world as the paradise inside the jungle, the Guanavenas Inn has all the facilities of a first class hotel, but with one difference...it is completely inside the jungle. There are 33 triple bedrooms and 12 private bungalows with air-conditioning, refrigerators, electric hot showers, private bathrooms and verandahs. The swimming pool, game rooms, volley ball court, bird nursery, hatchery, animal zoo, and restaurant are all easily accessed by all guests. In order to communicate with the rest of the world the hotel has at your disposal a DDD telephone and radio. There are also several highly experienced bilingual tour guides ready at all times to assist clients with baggage and transfers. The Guanavenas Inn can be reached by private plane from Manaus, or you can travel the exciting route by road and waterway. From Manaus travel by air-conditioned car is four hours then travel by motorized boat is a 2 hour ride to the inn. Day
